New tee for the DLC

DLC is a collection of brilliant artists dedicated to designing stuff that you would want to wear. We focus pretty heavily on vector driven designs, a bit of humour and some slick lines.

Evolution of an Illustration

Thought I'd pop up a quick evolution of my Super Girl for the Cotton On campaign. It's funny how the first one you do is poo pooed but is usually the personal fave. As it was in this case ...

1st iteration. Told to draw a super girl wearing undies and uggies.

2nd. "Make her invisible"

3rd. "Make her less invisible, with a yellow background. Less manga. No facial features."

4th. "Make her undies more super, and make her an aspirational cut-out."

5th. "More super. More yellowier"

6th. "Sexier. Less yellow."... and voila, happy clients and a happy Mike.

I love my job! What other job would you hear "make her undies more super?"

Ahhhh the Good Ole Days!

I have been watching Mad Men on SBS and loving it, but also gasping in amazement at what they used to get away with when advertising. Which lead me to finding this little gem, which in turn lead to my latest t-shirt design, which, if you love it, you can purchase it over here at Red Bubble.

Double The Joy

What is better than one brilliant designer creating a t-shirt? 2 designers joining forces to create 2 t-shirts....

Not too long ago several amazing artists on Redbubble from the T-shirt Revolution Group got together to whip up a storm and create 2 original t-shirt designs but based on either; similar themes, or by incorporating elements that each other had created. The results were sensational. A couple to mull over....

Another duo was

Jemimalovesbigted with Yin

Raae with Yang

AudioHive T..

For the Redbubble sound competition

I sat and thought about sound, what it is, what it means. Our attraction to sound is primal, as universal as the world itself. It has structure and body, with no definable form. It can be all things, natural, mechanical & electric.

Sound brings us together, forms and strengthens communities. So this design is a visual representation of those thoughts.. I hope you enjoy it.

#00FF00 is alive and free

Had a few moments to spare, so I put my lab coat on and glasses with the extra thick lenses, then smashed some atoms, sheared a few genes, and got jiggy with some diodes to create a 3d version of my little mate #00FF00 ...

Super Mario Bros Tshirt

I like a bit of nostalgia when it comes to tshirts and design. I think you can conjour up something that reminds someone of something they like, or their childhood, or something they used to do; you're already on a winner.

With this design I wanted to combine something I love now, with something I loved then. Sushi and Super Mario Brothers. What with a heavy "seafood theme" in all 3 games, there was so many ingredients to choose from! Originally Frogsuit Mario was to be Nigiri style sushi, but that didn't leave me many options for other dishes. So he became a Maki Sushi Roll, probably the most recognisable "icon" of sushi out of them all, perfect for the most recognisable "icon" of Mario 3, Level 3 Water World.

The rest was a natural progression, what with there already being many squid sushi, and sashimi of course.

Check it out here on Red Bubble!!

I dig your sound (but do i dig competitions?)

Welcome to Magoombies. What better way to kick off the new year than with a competition entry, this one for the Redbubble/Demo Store Sound Competition

So i was still a bit miffed that my entry in the london calling comp never made the top 20 (hehe), still i picked up my pen and paper and threw down some ideas for this latest challenge. Original idea was to put a DJ mixer and DJ turntable together but i was not sure everyone would recognise the mixer for what it is.
Very rough, but with a little Illustrator CS2 magic my sketch tranforms
Check out the final product and remember me at voting time.

Keep it real,
